Get Well Soon

Today I'm sharing a card I made for my Grandma who has been in the hospital for a over a week, feeling under the weather.  Thought this might cheer her up a little.

I created this Curvy Gatefold base after seeing a few floating around the web.  Thought it was something different and cute.  I used my Chomas Creations Embossing tip to add score lines to the card.  And of course I had to decorate it with an adorable KaDoodle Bug Designs file ~ perfect file for this card.

I used a washi tape die to create the perfect place for my sentiment, which also helps keep the card closed.

The inside has plenty of room to write a loving memo.  I added the adorable nurse bear from the set as well.  She's so perfect!!

On to the fun part of creating...

Got all mat full with all my paper choices and notice the cool embossing tip!  Makes it so much easier than getting the scoreboard out lol

The curvy gatefold card closed ~ something different and fun!

The most adorable bear ever peeking over the Band-Aid.  I love this file and it definitely will be my go to file for get well cards.

And here's the inside nurse bear up close...

Cookie Bear Freebie

Have y'all grabbed this weeks FREE files from KBD?!?  This is the adorable Blue Cookie Bear that is available in a normal cut file and a print/cut that you can stack for layered dimension.  Be sure to grab them before FRIDAY!!

I created this little card base to resemble a little cookie monster biting the card.  The coordinating papers were also created in Photoshop to match my project.

After all the edges have been inked/chalked, it's time to assemble this cutie.

Once assembled, I popped by cookie bear on an Action Wobble for a little spin action.  These are such fun elements to work with.

I added some Glossy Accents to my chocolate chips and created a label sentiment.

Let everything dry and then you have a super cute cookie card.

Is she not adorable!?!

Cookie Treat Holder

I was asked to give a little more detail on how I made the cute Easter Bunny Treat Holder last week, so I'm going to show you how I created this treat holder for a cookie.  It uses the exact same file I created for the last project just a little bigger.  As an added bonus, I've included the basic treat holder svg for y'all to enjoy!

To start, I laid out all the pieces of cardstock to coordinate with my online mat.

Here you will see all my pieces cut and ready to inked/airbrushed for dimension.

I chose to airbrush my "cookie" base and all the chocolate chip pieces.
Using a brown sharpie it adds a nice layer of color that gives the pieces a "baked" look.  I then go over just the edges with some Chestnut Roan to make them a little bit darker.

I then chalk the edges of the cookie and eyes.  I use different layers of chalk to add more dimension.  For the cookie I start off with a lighter color, then come back over with a darker color to give the cookie a crispy baked edge appearance.  The eyes are done in a similar fashion with green chalks.  All colors used are listed below.

Now it's time to assemble the cookie.  I place the glasses in the general area I want my eyes to be, then place the chips spaced out around the cookie. Once I'm happy with the chip placement, I will glue them in place.

I then add my eyes.  I also wanted to make my chips have a little sheen like they are just at that wonderful melting point so I covered each one in Glossy Accents.  I also wanted my glasses to be shiny and have some dimension so I covered those in Liquid Glass.  Now let the adorable cookie dry while you create the treat holder.

The file has a flat top but you can give it a decorative edge using a border punch or a die.  I chose to use a die but ONLY cut the top portion off.  I put the edge under the die and ran that through the Big Shot giving me a little decorative edge.

Now it's time to get your scoring board out and score the treat holder. You will score the treat holder at all the points of the flaps.  The flaps at the bottom of the box in the image below are scored 3/4" from the edge on both sides.  Refer to the image if you have questions on where to score.

Next, add some double sided tape to the flaps you folded at 3/4".  Adhere those to the back of the treat holder.  You can add a small piece of tape to the smaller flaps and adhere those to the sides if you'd like as well.

Add a small hole using a punch to the top center. Add a little ribbon and tie it off with twine.

You can add a sentiment to the base of the treat holder if you like. I HIGHLY recommend adding it BEFORE you add the ribbon or assemble it if using a stamp pad.  I did have to remove the ribbon and use an acrylic block to stamp the sentiment so it's not perfect, but you live and learn right?! =)

Once the cookie was all dry, it's time to add that to the front of the holder using some foam tape or 3d dots.

Here are a couple close-ups of the shiny chips and "plastic" looking glasses.

For those that would like to create a treat holder like I have done, I'm giving the file to y'all to download the file for free.  Remember, you will need to score the holder as I did not add score lines. You can resize it to fit the size you need, just remember to lock the dimensions so the height/width stay uniform.

Chicky Treat Holder

Here's another cute treat holder to add to your list this Easter.  Cadbury Eggs are my Achilles heel ~ I could eat them anytime and never get tired of them!  So I thought this little egg holder would be super cute and of course, KaDoodle Bug Designs has the PERFECT die cut to match this project.

For your holder you will want to cut your card stock to the following dimensions:

Cut your base piece 2" x 7" (score at 3" and 4 1/2")
Cut your candy insert 2" x 3" (score at 1/4" and 1/2" on all 4 sides)

Using a border punch/die clip the ends of the treat holder.  Punch a small hole in the center of both ends as well.

Remove the 4 corners of the candy insert.  Find the center of the candy insert, use a 1" circle die or punch and make a circle.

Next, you will fold the score lines on your base.  Using your double sided tape, apply some on all 4 bottom pieces and tape the tray inside your candy holder. I then added my adorable chick with her yummy egg to the outside with foam tape.  Using a small piece of ribbon, close the holder.  These are such a cute way to hand out yummy eggs to all!

For this fun project, I used the following:
KaDoodle Bug Designs ~ Eggsloping Sweetness
Bazzill Cardstock
Recollections Cardstock
Spellbinders Nestabilities Labels Twenty Eight Dies
Sookwang Double Sided Tape
Kuuqa Circle Dies

Birthday Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge

Today starts a new challenge over at KaDoodle Bug Designs.  Theme this week is a Birthday Tic-Tac-Toe theme.

For my challenge inspiration, I chose to make a fun birthday card with some new techniques for me and am extremely happy with the final card.

To create the background paper, I tried a new painting technique using some of my favorite paints.  If you have not tired the dylusions paint, you really must!  It's so smooth and blends fabulously!!  So I used the smashed peas and just a normal acrylic turquoise paint and a makeup foam to dab the paint in a pattern I liked.

I then added my stencil dabbed the lilac to cover the splat.

I "bumped" my stencil to allow just a small portion of the lilac to show, which will give the new rose color a little dimension.

Finally, I took a piece of sandpaper and lightly sanded some areas to allow the color below to show through.  As you can see, the lilac makes a great shadow layer for the rose.

Next up I took a piece of white cardstock and covered that with some aluminum tape.  I ran that piece through my Big Shot with a balloon embossing folder.  All the pieces got matted and attached to the card.

I used a super adorable Party Candle from KaDoodle Bug Designs to decorate the front.  The flame and melted wax got some added bling with Stickles.  For the melted wax on top of the candle, I added some Liquid Glass to make it a little shinier and give the impression it was a little wet.

We would really LOVE to see you join our new challenge in the KBD Facebook Group.  You can get there by clicking here.
