Kindred Stamps May Release

I truly enjoyed the set I got to work with this month ~ Tea Party.  All the characters are so much fun to color and there are SO many options in this set.

I created three fun projects and managed to use all but 2 of the stamps in this set. 

First project up is this fun tea bag holder.  I'm a major tea addict and always looking for creative ways to store my tea bags so I don't have a bunch of boxes on the counter.  I made the holder out of clear cardstock and added the adorable stamped images and colored it to match my kitchen.  

Next up is the popular impossible card.  These really are super easy to make. Hardest part was choosing what paper to use lol.  This cutie is colored up with Prismacolor Pencils and makes the perfect addition to this card.  If you are interested in downloading the card base, I have it available here.

My last project is one I truly enjoyed making.  While cleaning my craft room trying to destash things I no longer use I found this clear CD protector and thought it would make a perfect sun catcher!

I love how this turned out and it looks great hanging in my craft room window.  I will have a full how to blog post in the coming days on how this was created with loads of pics and details. Here are a few close up photos:

Mermaid Candle

I'm sharing a really cute candle today with y'all using an adorable digi stamp from KaDoodle Bug Designs.  I really love the cute little Twirling Mermaid and thought this would be a perfect image for one of my nieces.

The first thing you'll want to do is print your image on tissue paper.  You can print it first on regular copy paper, then tape a piece of tissue paper (shiny side up!) and run it through your printer again, or just skip that step and print directly on the paper with tissue paper attached.

Then you'll want to color your image - don't be afraid to color on tissue paper!  It's actually pretty durable if you don't push too hard.  I used Prismacolor pencils for my candle, but you can use markers as well.

You'll then want to remove your image from the copy paper and trim the edges.  I did a rough cut around mine so it wouldn't be just a block on the candle.

Next, lay the colored image on the candle where you'd like it to go.  It will cling to your candle.

Grab a piece of freezer paper or parchment paper and wrap it around the candle, creating a handle with the excess in the back for you to hold onto while using the heat tool.

Slowly apply heat from your heat tool for a few seconds until the image is embedded in the candle.  Remove the freezer paper and let it cool.  You have now created your own custom candle.

Time Traveler Candle

A few years back I colored a digi stamp and added it to a candle, which was really fun creating a fun project.  It seems to be all the rage these days so I decided to use stamped images on tissue paper this time around.

No surprise I chose to work with the Time Traveler set and the really cool Outer Space set from Kindred Stamps.  They are the GO TO place for all pop culture stamps!

So I started out looking for a cool space background.  This one was pretty cool as it reminds me of one of my favorite parts of the series.  I sized it to fit around the candle I was using.  I then took my stamp outlines I got from using my PixScan Mat with my Cameo.  I placed everything where I wanted it then printed it on regular copy paper.  Then apply a piece of white tissue paper covering your printed image, SHINY side up.

Now it's time to stamp the images in place.  I masked my Time Traveler to ensure he was in front of the telephone box.

  I then stamped all my worlds from the Outer Space set. Now onto coloring!!

I chose to use my Prismacolor pencils for this project.  You color the same as you would on paper but you wouldn't use anything to blend the colors.  I do not use anything to blend when I color with pencils on any medium.  Once you have your images colored, remove the tissue paper from the copy paper.

Next, you'll want to gently tear your edges of the tissue paper.  If I had left a white border, it helps the edges not be seen.  However, I chose to to do the space scene so I just did some heavy tears along the top - I didn't want it flush with the top.

Time to position the tissue paper on the candle.  There is nothing holding the tissue paper in place.  It's just kinda clings to the candle

You'll want to wrap the candle with some wax paper or parchment paper, keeping enough in the back for a "handle" so you don't burn yourself.  Grab that heat gun and slowly heat the candle, but do not hold the heat gun in one place for too long or you will melt your candle.

And just like that ~ you have a custom made candle!

Impossible Card

So by now I'm sure everyone has seen the impossible card - really fun card with a neat flip feature and a center that stands upright all from one sheet of paper!  Well I've been having a lot of fun making them and decided to create a cut file to make the card that much easier to make.  All it requires is a simple fold line and it's ready for action.

I was totally geeking out when I saw the new Light Saber Bear and title from KaDoodle Bug Designs ~ yes, I'm a sci-fy junkie lol.  I knew this card type with a fun space background would be perfect.  So I took on that challenge.

When you open the impossible card file, you will see these pieces on your mat. I labeled each piece below so you'd know what pieces I will be referring to when I assemble my card.  The lines in the base are cut lines, so you will want to cut those when you send it to your machine.

Once you pick your cardstock, it's time to send it to the machine.  Here you can see I went with black for the base pieces.  Although the rest are white, the ones labeled patterned paper are Bristol 110lb paper to create my space pieces.

After everything was cut, I created my space pieces.  I used 3 different distress inks to create them.

First, I added some of the lightest color to random areas.

Next, add some of the darker blue to the areas you want.

Then come in with some of the purple. 

Blend them together.  This is why the Bristol paper works so great - the ink doesn't dry right way and sits on top of the paper, allowing it to blend smoothly.

Now onto the card base.  You'll want to score BETWEEN the 2 cut lines at the 2 1/2 inch mark.  Line the card up with the 2 cut lines facing the right on your scoreboard. 

Fold your flap up, burnishing it a little.

Now you can flip those flaps, either direction.   Here's a little video to show it in motion.

Here's my card in the flipped position I want it in.  If you want the flip reversed, you'll need to rotate your cut pieces to ensure the patterned paper cuts in the direction you want.

Add the mat pieces to your base.

Then add the patterned paper or in this case, the space pieces made previously.

Add the support piece.  Adding both is optional - one gives the card more than enough durability.

Now it's time to decorate that flap.  I so love how this card turned out! You can add all kinds of crafty goodies to your support pieces.  I chose to leave mine plain for now as this will be a masculine card.  I may add some white dots for stars.

I added a white mat to the back to write a message.

A dear crafty friend invited me to check out this cool new digi company, LeAnn's World 101 and I'm glad I did.  She has some really cute digis to color.  I chose to work with the Kevin stamp, as it makes for a wonderful masculine card.

I wanted to keep it CAS as most guys aren't into the frilly layers, bling and flowers.  The entire background was created with distress inks and I really like how it turned out.

I'm also really enjoying the Zig water color markers ~ they are super easy to work with and I love the softness it gives the image.

Happy Birthday Decoder Card

Birthday cards can be so much fun to make!  I love the excitement the birthday person gets when they see a handmade card and the more interactive it is, the better.  So today I'm sharing a  really fun decoder card - might take you back a few years to your childhood lol.

I used the new Little Hatchem's Birthday Surprise file.  It's so cute, I couldn't resist creating her.

To start, I got all my pieces arranged on my mat to cut.  I wanted the decoder messages to be in balloons, so I took a few from the Celebrate the New Year file.  I sized those based on the stamps I was going to use, then created a larger sized balloon to use for the decoder.  Here you can see everything on my mat getting cut.

Next, I removed the balloons but did not unload my mat.  This allowed me to stamp my sentiment then doodle over the top.  I used a light blue distress ink for the stamping.

Put them back on the mat to be doodled.

Then I sent the doodle designs to my Cameo and it drew them over the stamped sentiments.

I'm not too fond of the HB2U stamp, but the other 2 look great!

Time to assemble my birthday bear.  I added some stickles and glossy accents to give it a little something extra.

Next, I assembled the decoder balloon.  Normally I'd use my Xryon Creative Station, but just my luck it ran out of adhesive.  So I used some double sided tape and stuck the red mylar to one side.  Then turned the other balloon shape over and applied double sided tape to the back.

Remove the backing and stick them together, making sure you line up the edges.

Test out the decoder to see if you can read the stamped sentiments.

I chose to do a simple base for this card - just a sketched border.  I then added my bear and balloons, which were tied together with some twine.  You'll need to add a couple of eyelets for the decoder to hang on the card, so I chose some pink mini eyelets.

Cut another piece of twine long enough to allow the decoder to reach each balloon.  Tie the decoder piece to the card through the eyelets and test out the card.   Pretty simple, but cute card in the end.
