Birthday Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge

Today starts a new challenge over at KaDoodle Bug Designs.  Theme this week is a Birthday Tic-Tac-Toe theme.

For my challenge inspiration, I chose to make a fun birthday card with some new techniques for me and am extremely happy with the final card.

To create the background paper, I tried a new painting technique using some of my favorite paints.  If you have not tired the dylusions paint, you really must!  It's so smooth and blends fabulously!!  So I used the smashed peas and just a normal acrylic turquoise paint and a makeup foam to dab the paint in a pattern I liked.  

 

I then added my stencil dabbed the lilac to cover the splat.

 I "bumped" my stencil to allow just a small portion of the lilac to show, which will give the new rose color a little dimension.

Finally, I took a piece of sandpaper and lightly sanded some areas to allow the color below to show through.  As you can see, the lilac makes a great shadow layer for the rose.

Next up I took a piece of white cardstock and covered that with some aluminum tape.  I ran that piece through my Big Shot with a balloon embossing folder.  All the pieces got matted and attached to the card.

I used a super adorable Party Candle from KaDoodle Bug Designs to decorate the front.  The flame and melted wax got some added bling with Stickles.  For the melted wax on top of the candle, I added some Liquid Glass to make it a little shinier and give the impression it was a little wet.
